Desktop virtualization– or a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI)– utilizes the same basic technologies as server virtualization. The two dominant solutions today are Citrix’s XenDesktop and VMware’s VMware View. A solution like Citrix XenDesktop is an open solution that integrates as well with VMware’s ESX/vSphere and Microsoft’s Hyper-V as with its own integrated XenServer.
